Celluloid is an open source media player that provides a basic and simple to use front end for Gnome MPV. The problem in Ubuntu 20.04 is that you cannot install flatpak applications directly and Celluloid is not available as a snap. Because default video player in Ubuntu does not support all major media formats, we will guide you here to install celluloid media player directly without using flatpaks.

Step 1:

Search for Celluloid player in search engine of your choice such as Google and open the link at the top

Step 2:

On home page of celluloid player click on the installation tab. You will see following output on screen;

then click on the link in front of Ubuntu as shown above.

Step 3:

After clicking on the link you will see following screen with the repository information.

Now you have to pen the terminal and run the following commands in the given sequence.

  1. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xuzhen66/gnome-mpv
  2. sudo apt-get update
  3. sudo apt-get install celluloid
